GAMBLER BURST THOR'S HAMMER SPONGE
Gambler Burst is an aggressively tacky attack rubber for players who wish to use heavy spin. Suitable for close attack and 3rd ball push to attack and heavy over the table loop. Thor’s Hammer is special hard professional grade large cell sponge, much faster than traditional sponge, that works fantastic tuned. We generally recommend this type of sponge for advanced or professional players. This type of large cell hard sponge is what professional players in China use. Thor’s Hammer is the same formula large cell type that is used under famous “National Team” rubbers.
NOTE: These ratings may vary from the original ratings, as the Thor's Hammer sponge is more powerful than the original one.
I Got this for my forehand with one of the new gambler FLC blades... It's a very very nice rubber for the price... I didn't even boost it because I think I am already able to generate enough power. I Highly recommend it, and I've used several of the big name rubbers out there.
Ball bounces off the rubber with a spring effect. I did not expect that for a hard sponge. Tackiness was originally strong enough to pick the ball up off the table, but after 1-2 weeks it disappeared (I only cleaned with water and microfiber cloth). I bought this because it's supposed to be similar to Hurricane 3, but I think I will try that next.
I've used Burst for about 3 weeks now. It has the combination of a tacky surface with Japanese style (rebound) sponge. I've switched from Hurricane III Neo and can say this rubber is much more dynamic. The sponge gives a more consistent bounce at different swing speeds. Recovery shots require less effort when out of position. Burst has the same spin degree with the kick of a rubber like Tenergy. Great for looping over the table and at mid distance. You can loop slow with spin or drive with power. It also has good control for blocking and short game. Fire Dragon Hinoki ST Burst Thor 2.1mm Burst Thor 2.1mm
I am penhold close to table player (USATT tank 1890), previously play with special and expensive version of Hurricane 2, Burst rubber is better, not just a little better but much better. Later on I got the tuner and at first the rubber did not change much, after a few days of having it on the blade it is now even more spin.
Compared forehand against H3 and H3Neo on Dr. N Titan blade. Excellent and at same level with some comparative pros and cons (based on close to table and zone 2 strokes). Pro: flicks are beautiful against backspin serves whereas H3s need vertical blade and stroke. Nice fh loops and drives but need to slightly closed blade compared to H3s. Con: with higher arc, found that pushes against backspin are higher over net...if slow, can give advantage to opponent. Great alternative to the H3s.
This rubber is about the best value I think one can get for $14. Not sure I can name a better rubber in that range. Really nice. I think my favorite trait of it is the Thor's Hammer sponge. Firm but slightly springy. This sponge offers all the power I would think any non-professional would want or need. No need to tune this. The firm sponge packs plenty of punch. The topsheet I would say is about as tacky as Gambler's other most tacky rubber in Gambler Wrath. They're comparable. Maybe Wraith is just a hair tackier. It's pretty subjective at this point. The difference being that with this firmer sponge, you'd want this on your FH. I don't know if I'd play it on my BH. I think a softer sponge would be better suited there (see Gambler Wrath). All in all I'm happy with the topsheet. It's pretty darn good. It's not as tacky as say any H3 topsheet (if it were, I'd give this 5 stars easy) but from what I've seen, few rubbers are. If you want basically flypaper type of tacky, then H3 is your answer. But I'm playing probably my best TT to date with this rubber on my FH. Very happy with it. Even my partner who plays with Tenergy (granted that's a euro tuned rubber so it's a different style) gave it a whirl and said "Yeah this is nice. I could hit with this". So it can fit a lot different personal taste. It's just a really nice rubber.
bought this for my FH and it is very similar to h3neo but i think burst is just easier to use and more reliable. i put this rubber on gambler vector target blade with 1.9 mechtek predator on bh. i also enjoy burst rubber more than my xiom vega pro, to me it just feels better (that's the only way i can describe it) also it's less than half the price!
